Food trucks and independent restaurants share the same core needs — a branded storefront, direct payments, loyalty, and a customer list they actually own — but are underserved by enterprise POS vendors built for chains. Concentrating on these two segments lets us ship features that matter (Today's Location, one-tap reorder, offline mPOS, AI Food Agent) rather than diluting the product for every possible cuisine or format.

Why did you remove the Home Kitchen / Home Chef segment?

Home-based food operators face a patchwork of cottage-food laws that vary by state, county, and even city. Many require licensed commercial kitchens for online sale, delivery, or shipping across lines. We won't onboard a segment where we can't reliably help operators stay compliant end-to-end. If you're a licensed commissary-based operator, the Food Truck plan is the right fit.

What about multi-location groups?

Small Restaurants scales to a single physical location. When you open a second, upgrade to Multi-Location — same menu, same loyalty, same customer list, no re-platforming. See /for/multi-location.

What about ghost kitchens, catering-only, or pop-ups?

Accepted Answer

Catering, pop-up events, and weekly subscription models are built into every paid plan as order types alongside dine-in and pickup. You don't need a separate SKU — turn on the order types that match how you sell.

Do I need a business license to onboard?

Accepted Answer

Yes. To accept online payments through Fulplate you need a registered business (LLC, sole proprietorship, or corporation) and the food-service permits your jurisdiction requires — mobile food unit permit for trucks, retail food establishment permit for restaurants, plus commissary agreements where applicable.

What do you verify during onboarding?

Our payments partner runs standard KYC/KYB: business legal name, EIN or SSN for sole proprietors, physical address, ownership over 25%, and a bank account for settlement. Food-service permits are your responsibility to hold and renew — we do not verify them, but your local health department will.

How do you handle sales tax?

Fulplate calculates sales tax on every order using our address-based tax engine (jurisdiction + origin address + state rules). You choose local mode or plug in TaxJar / Avalara. Every order carries a per-order tax snapshot for auditability. Remittance is your responsibility.

Card data never touches Fulplate servers. Payments run through a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified processor via hosted checkout and (for card-present) direct-to-reader flows. That keeps your PCI scope at SAQ-A, the lightest tier.

Yes. Every menu item supports allergen tags (top 9), wellness attributes, and free-form ingredient notes. Storefront and receipts surface them automatically. FDA menu-labeling rules apply to restaurants with 20+ locations — Multi-Location tier is built with that in mind.

How long does onboarding take?

Most food trucks are live in under 10 minutes; most small restaurants in under an hour. The long pole is menu photography — you can start with our AI menu import (paste a URL, we extract items and prices) and swap in photos over time.

Four steps: (1) claim your subdomain and brand, (2) import or build your menu, (3) turn on the order types you sell (pickup, delivery, catering, subscriptions, phone), (4) connect payments and place a test order. Every step has a skip option so you can go live now and refine later.

Can you migrate my existing menu?

Yes. Paste your current website, Google Business, or delivery-app URL and our importer will pull items, descriptions, prices, and photos where available. You review and publish — nothing goes live without your approval.

Bulk-import your customer list via CSV. Guest orders auto-create customer records, and any diner who claims their account via email or phone gets their full order history stitched in — even orders placed before they signed up.

No. Fulplate runs in a browser on the phone, tablet, or laptop you already own. For in-person card payments on the go, use Tap-to-Pay on iPhone/Android (rolling out per processor entitlement). Countertop card readers are optional, not required.
